RACHEL BARKER

I’m a video editor, writer and film critic, based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.  

 

In my career so far I've have undertaken a huge variety of work in visual media and the written word. 

 

In 2023 I was a full-time writer and producer at VICE NZ. I predominantly wrote long-form features focussing on current cultural issues, oddball stories and areas of personal interest like film and fashion. This role also included short-form video production, interviewing and presenting. ​VICE NZ has honed my skills across journalism and social media. 

 

In 2023 and 2024 I also worked with the NZ Government's Ministry of Social Development as the lead writer on the Love Better campaign – a role that involves features writing, copywriting and editing the work of contributors.

Prior to this I worked as a video editor in advertising, documentary and social media.

 

As a lifelong lover of film, I created the YouTube channel Girl on Film in 2022, where I produce video essays on horror and female-centric cinema. The channel has 60,000 subscribers and 50,000 -100,000 monthly views. 

 

I’m always looking out for new exciting opportunities, both at home and on new shores.
